Eryngium Planum - Cross Thistle

The cross thistle or Eryngium Planum has bright blue stems and blue-gray flower buds. They are very popular with pollinators and you can dry or cut this flower perfectly for your bouquets. Watch out for the skewers ;-)

For best results, sow this Eryngium in the fall, but of course it can also be done in the spring. This plant prefers full sun for better flowering and in soil that is not too wet. It is a perennial. The foliage dies off in the winter, but the plant grows back in the spring. So you only have to sow it once ;-)
